FUVN are hosting a special World Ventil8 Day event to celebrate unique or unusual ventilation projects and the people behind them. We’ll be talking integrated ‘smart’ building controls, the internet of things, ventilation and thermal comfort, using natural and hybrid ventilation, sharing new and exciting experimental facilities and hearing about how ventilation played a key role in getting venues back up and running during the Covid-19 pandemic. Inaugural World Ventilation Day 8th November!
Ventilating and cleaning the air in buildings is a crucial part of enabling health and wellbeing of people. But it is so often ignored or poorly understood – and we usually only notice when there is a problem. Good ventilation can reduce exposure to air pollutants and infectious diseases, help us to perform better and be more productive, enable us to sleep better, and reduce mould and damp in buildings. We are launching World Ventilation Day #WorldVentil8Day. Understanding air quality for health in different environments
On 22 September 2022 the Breathing City hosting a half day event to explore indoor air quality for health with a particular focus on “Understanding AQ for health in different environments” – discussing the challenges of measuring air quality and ventilation and relating this to health parameters. Event report: Understanding IAQ for healthy buildings in a net zero world
On 28th September 2022, Breathing City (FUVN), TAPAS and ICP-ERG jointly hosted an in-person event in White City Campus, Imperial College London, which engaged discussions from academia, industry, and public policy around ‘Understanding IAQ for healthy buildings in a net zero world’ and focussed on early career researchers and indoor air monitoring studies. We heard presentations across a range IAQ topics including monitoring, characterization methods, ventilation studies, modelling, IAQ health assessments and behavioural studies. The talks were not recorded but many of the speakers were able to share their slides which you can access via the links below. Plenary speaker, Corinne Mandin who headed up the French IAQ Observatory, talked on the rising issues and future challenges of indoor air quality with increasing urbanization and a decline in biodiversity. We have designed a repository by interacting with network members and responding to the network’s recent activities. We have considered which information is most sought after and are looking at other relevant databases/repositories already available to avoid overlap. Festival of the Mind
Breathing City’s Dr Abigail Hathway from the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield has worked with artist Sian Williams to create a short video about ventilation for Sheffield’s Festival of the Mind. Festival of the Mind takes place across Sheffield from 15 – 25 September 2022 and sees the brightest minds from the University of Sheffield collaborate with the city’s cultural and creative industries, to help bring their research to life in exciting, entertaining and innovative ways. Free exhibitions, films, performances, workshops and talks across 3 venues exploring University of Sheffield research that is helping tackle some of the biggest issues impacting society and the planet. ‘Every Breath You Treat’ online conference
On October 4th 2022, the “Every Breath You Treat” online conference will bring together (virtually) more than a dozen experts from academia and medicine to share cutting-edge research and insight exploring the effects of air pollution throughout the life course. There will also be the opportunity to get questions answered live by any of our expert speakers. This event to be the first of its kind focused on this subject matter in the UK. This online conference has been designed by Leeds City Council’s public health and air quality teams specifically for medical professionals, public health workers, and relevant academics anywhere in the UK.
