Event report: Understanding IAQ for healthy buildings in a net zero world
On 28th September 2022, Breathing City (FUVN), TAPAS and ICP-ERG jointly hosted an in-person event in White City Campus, Imperial College London, which engaged discussions from academia, industry, and public policy around ‘Understanding IAQ for healthy buildings in a net zero world’ and focussed on early career researchers and indoor air monitoring studies. We heard presentations across a range IAQ topics including monitoring, characterization methods, ventilation studies, modelling, IAQ health assessments and behavioural studies. The talks were not recorded but many of the speakers were able to share their slides which you can access via the links below. Plenary speaker, Corinne Mandin who headed up the French IAQ Observatory, talked on the rising issues and future challenges of indoor air quality with increasing urbanization and a decline in biodiversity. We have designed a repository by interacting with network members and responding to the network’s recent activities. We have considered which information is most sought after and are looking at other relevant databases/repositories already available to avoid overlap. Festival of the Mind
Breathing City’s Dr Abigail Hathway from the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield has worked with artist Sian Williams to create a short video about ventilation for Sheffield’s Festival of the Mind. Festival of the Mind takes place across Sheffield from 15 – 25 September 2022 and sees the brightest minds from the University of Sheffield collaborate with the city’s cultural and creative industries, to help bring their research to life in exciting, entertaining and innovative ways. ‘Every Breath You Treat’ online conference
On October 4th 2022, the “Every Breath You Treat” online conference will bring together (virtually) more than a dozen experts from academia and medicine to share cutting-edge research and insight exploring the effects of air pollution throughout the life course. There will also be the opportunity to get questions answered live by any of our expert speakers. This event to be the first of its kind focused on this subject matter in the UK. This online conference has been designed by Leeds City Council’s public health and air quality teams specifically for medical professionals, public health workers, and relevant academics anywhere in the UK. Clean Air Networks’ Conference 2023
5-6 July 2023, University of Birmingham The countdown to the Clean Air Networks Conference begins! We are delighted to announce the Clean Air Networks Conference, to be held at the University of Birmingham 5-6 July 2023. The conference is a collaboration between the seven networks funded under the UK Clean Air Strategic Priority Fund (Wave 2), the STFC Air Quality Network and the UK Clean Air Champions. The focus of the network is to showcase the work done over the past four years and to identify, as a legacy for the UK Clean Air community, the next steps for indoor and outdoor air quality research and policy. The conference programme will highlight the cross-cutting themes and foci of the networks’ activities, presenting examples of their findings and collaborations with stakeholders.
